Leslie G. Grendahl

Leslie G. Grendahl wrote her first by-laws in 7th grade and has assumed leadership positions ever since.

    In 1987 Leslie became the executive director of the Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association. During her 21 year tenure:
  • Membership rose from 40% to 90% of all veterinarians in Wisconsin;
  • Association income increased 850%;
  • Active committees grew from four to 15, several with waiting lists;
  • Annual convention net revenue increased seven-fold, exhibit booths doubled, and attendance more than tripled;
  • A productive and active legislative network was created and grew to more than 500 members. This involved constituents personally contacting legislators, eliminating a need for a PAC.

While directing the WVMA, Leslie developed a highly effective process that helped it and several other associations identify priorities and short-term goals. She also assisted local associations to successfully get back on their feet.

Leslie is a past president of the American Society of Veterinary Medical Association Executives. In 1999 she was awarded its highest honor, Executive Director of the Year.

Leslie finds her greatest professional rewards come from helping associations attain success in areas where they feel overwhelmed by targeting their focus so they can realize their goals.
